Punjab Govt Buy 3,000 New Buses – Minister
On August 9th, 2024, Punjab Transport Minister Akbar Khan unveiled an ambitious plan to enhance the province’s transport system. The initiative includes purchasing 3,000 new buses, which Khan described as a major upgrade.
Speaking at the Attock General bus stand, Khan emphasized the government’s commitment to providing safe travel options for the public. “The government must demonstrate its obligation to offer secure and efficient travel facilities,” he said.
Inspection and New Measures:
- During the event, Khan and other officials, including Deputy Commissioner Roa Atif and Assistant Commissioner City Shagufta Jabeen, inspected various facilities. They checked water coolers, ticket offices, bus shelters, and washrooms to ensure cleanliness and functionality.
- Minister Bilal Khan also announced the enforcement of an axle-load limit on vehicles and a ban on LPG cylinders to reduce accident risks.
Digital Fitness System:
- Khan introduced a new digital fitness system for vehicles, incorporating QR codes to link number plates and fitness certificates. This system aims to ensure that only vehicles meeting environmental standards remain on the road.
Chief Minister’s Vision:
- Khan noted that these initiatives align with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision to enhance public service delivery and citizen comfort. Nawaz has also launched road safety campaigns to promote safe driving.
Regional Updates:
- Several provinces, including Islamabad and KPK, have introduced transportation services specifically for women and students traveling from rural areas for education.
